The Python Software Foundation (PSF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that holds the intellectual property rights behind the Python programming language. We manage the open source licensing for Python version 2.1 and later and own and protect the trademarks associated with Python. We also run the North American PyCon conference annually, support other Python conferences around the world, and fund Python related development with our grants program and by funding special projects.
Founded in 2003, Chicago Python User Group is one of the world's most active programming language special interest groups with over 1,000 active members and many more prestigious alumni. ChiPy's main focus is promoting Python Programming Language and everything that surrounds it: open source, business, education, entrepreneurship, science, and every python programmer seasoned or emerging. Every month ChiPy hosts over four events with an average of 80-120 attendees which include tech talks, domain specific talks and hands on Python workshops. ChiPy has been organizing a one on one Mentorship program for the last 3 years that has helped over 100 junior developers gain expertise on the python language, Data Science, Web Development. We have dedicated events to showcase Python powered businesses and over 25 Python shops in Chicago have used the ChiPy connection to hire Python developers. We collaborate with other language groups to organize "Chicago Polyglot" events.
The Recurse Center is a free, three-month programming retreat for people who want to become better programmers, regardless of if they've been coding for six months or twenty years. We have a supportive, diverse, energizing, and intellectually curious community, and we bring in phenomenal programmers in residence (past residents include Peter Norvig, Jessica McKellar, and Jacob Kaplan-Moss). We are free for everyone and provide need-based grants for living expenses up to $7,000 for people from groups traditionally underrepresented in programming.
