Description

Deaf people are underrepresented in programming roles and in the wider CS community. There are extra obstacles that Deaf people face when learning to code and integrating/networking within the industry. Python might be ideal for teaching Deaf people to program, and with the help of some Deaf Aware Pythonistas, the Python community might be the ideal place for Deaf programmers to feel included.

Abstract

Come and hear how we can all help to be more Deaf aware in general and what we can all do to ensure that everyone, including Deaf sign language users, feel welcome in community settings. Find out more about sign language(s) and what considerations to make when making Python learning materials that may benefit people who use a sign language as their first language, and may also aid the learning experience of everyone else too!
