Abstract

This year I've reverse engineered two HTTP/Web enabled devices and written python clients for them. The Belkin Wemo [1] and the Philips Hue [2]. My poster session will cover methods materials and work.

Reverse engineering network devices can be straight forward or it can be brutal. In both of these cases it was fairly easy and it could be repeated for any number of things. As the "Internet of Things" is currently a trend, we'll see many more WiFi and Ethernet enabled devices with varying capabilities that would be more interesting if they were open and available to hack.

I'm a professional web developer with a background in hardware. I've build and coded this type of device professionally and I know how to "get in" and use several different methods to determine how they operate. Come ask questions and chat about exploring non-traditional computers and devices with me.
