Public Transit in Long Beach

Long Beach Regional Transit (LBT) is the public transit agency for the greater Long Beach area, providing bus, light rail, dial-a-lift, circuit shuttles, and water taxis.

LBT Bus System

A fleet of 250 buses operates daily, all year, and 37 bus routes, serving the Gateway Cities region of Los Angeles County. For information about routes, stops, park-and-ride options, and fare vending machines, use their interactive online map.

  • Fares: A Single trip fare can be paid using exact change ($1.25), a Transit Access Pass (TAP card) or through the TAP App. TAP Card or $1.25 with cash. Discount fares (about half-price) are available for people with Disabilities, Students, Medicare recipients, Seniors 62 and older. Children 0-4 ride for free and under who are with an adult. Frequent riders can buy daily, weekly, or monthly passes, or TAP cards. There are many options to buy and load TAP Cards with stored value (money loaded on your TAP card).

TAP cards can be used at any of the TAP-participating transit systems throughout LA County.

  • Routes and Hours: There are 37 bus routes, searchable through the online schedule-finder. These schedules are confusing to decipher, especially for visitors. A navigation app like Google Maps will help you time your trip, but if you want to do it yourself, LBT Authority recommends finding your destination and then working backward from the arrival time you want, to determine when to board. You may have to transfer to another bus for some destinations. Service times are typically between 5 AM and 1 AM on weekdays. For specific hours, including the free Passport service in Downtown Long Beach, you must check the schedule for the individual route you plan to use
  • Service Alerts: LBT lists rider alerts on its website, or you can sign up for real time arrivals. Text “LBT” plus your “stop #” and automatically receive bus arrival times for your stop. For example, if you’re at stop 1454, you would text “LBT 1454.” Be sure to include a space between LBT and your stop ID before sending.
  • Transfers: If you’ve bought a bus or T ticket within three hours using a ConnectCard, you can transfer to another vehicle for $1. This doesn’t apply to cash-paying customers.

Passport Bus

A free bus service called Passport operates in the downtown area on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It runs every 15 minutes between 10 AM and 8 PM and may have stops that go to the Convention Center. The Passport bus also connects to other local destinations.

Long Beach Yellow Cab

Long Beach Metro

The Metro A Line, L.A.'s first light rail transit system, runs from 7th Street in Downtown L.A., to downtown Long Beach. You can catch the train at one of four DTLB Metro stations. More info and schedules can be found here.

Long Beach Bike Share Network has 650 bikes, 112 stations, and 156 miles of bikeways. Rides start at $7 for 60-minute rides and $21 for 3-hour rides.
