Michael Scott Asato Cuthbert

Michael Scott Asato Cuthbert works at the intersection of computation, AI, and music. Until 2024, he was a professor of music at MIT, where he taught computational music analysis and music theory using Python and founded the MIT Digital Humanities Lab. He is the creator and principal investigator of music21, the open-source Python toolkit widely used for analyzing, teaching, and researching music and musical scores. Cuthbert is also a co-founder of Artusi, a platform for teaching music theory and aural skills online, built with Python and Django.
