chika Yinka-Banjo
Chika is an experienced and result-oriented Computer Scientist with interest in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Data Science and Entrepreneurship. As the Coordinator of the University of Lagos AI & Robotics laboratory (AiRoL), she is passionate about impacting her communities with creative and innovative projects that tremendously affect lives. With a Ph.D. in Computer Science (UCT, SA), Chika has developed models with machine learning techniques, one of which was to guide robots in a pre-entry safety inspection in the underground mines. She is extremely enthusiastic about and involved in applying Machine learning algorithms to numerous areas. Dr. Yinka-Banjo is a recipient of the One Year Study Award (Mathematical Sciences) at African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), Cape Town, South Africa (2009), L’Oreal-Unesco Fellowship for Women in Science (2013 fellow for Sub-Saharan Africa), a three-year Ph.D. (Computer Science) scholarship, from the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) (August 2011 – July 2014) and a four month post-doctoral research at Massachusetts institute of Technology (MIT), USA in 2019. She has been working in the capacity of lead PI, Co-PI and Co-I in different research projects.
