Description

There are as many ways to create, consume, support, and participate in open-source ecosystems as there are projects out there. Companies in tech have long been strong consumer/creator participants, but what's it like for everyone else? As software "eats the world" it turns out that it also creates a lot of undigestible waste in many places.

This session is about open source from the perspective of an organization that dipped its toe in the water on open source, and rapidly found itself 6 miles from shore and caught in a riptide before it realized what had happened. We will talk about the legalities of open source, the process that is hidden from most people in the open-source world, and how companies that may want to do more in open source can make meaningful contributions to it without "going all open" or staying away completely.

When you leave this presentation, you will be armed with the information you need to work with your developers, business people, legal, and everyone who has a stake in the open-source process to make your projects successful without suffering through the growing pains.
