David Cournapeau started using python for small scripts during his PhD in automatic speech recognition, and then became involved with the numpy community. He has been a core contributor to numpy and scipy for several years, in particular in the areas of packaging, obscure platforms ports, C refactoring and improvements in numerical algorithms (especially statistics and signal processing).

He is currently working at Silveregg, a Japanese company specialized in business intelligence services, where he is responsible for new product development and statistical algorithms improvements.
