Speaker Profile
Daniel W. Barnette, PhD
Daniel has been employed with Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, since 1977. He has worked in the areas of both aeroballistics in support of the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile and in computational science related to high-performance computers. After realizing the limitations of Fortran and C in performing some of his job duties, he began investigating Python 5 years ago. He hasn't looked back since. His first project was to build Python code to create, access, manage, and analyze MySQL databases for supercomputer and cluster performance and modeling data. Python and its supporting modules and libraries met every challenge along the way. He is also investigating the use of Django's web framework for web-based database analysis. As a result of his experience with Python, he now wears the 'Pythonista' label as a badge of honor.
