Introduction to the OpenStack Project

OpenStack (http://openstack.org) is the open source, open standards Cloud.

Back in mid-2010, Rackspace (http://rackspace.com) teamed up with NASA to create a new open source project that could become an open standard for all cloud providers. Fortunately, NASA's 'Nebula' project (the basis for the cloud computing project) and Rackspace's 'Swift' project (the basis for cloud storage) were both written in Python!

In short order, the project grew to include a wide variety of companies, including: Citrix, Dell, NTT Data, PEER 1, SoftLayer, Rightscale, Cloud.com, iomart Group, Opscode, Puppet Labs, FathomDB, ANSO, CloudKick, Zenoss, Limelight, Enstratus, Cloudscaling, Scalr, AMD, Intel, Autonomic Resources, Riptano, Zuora, Nicira, Spiceworks, Sonian, CloudSwitch, Cloud Central, MidoKura, Morphlabs, rPath, Vyatta, Intalio, Cirrascale, InterNap, EnterpriseDB, Gigaspaces, Cfengine, NTT, Opatan, L&T Infotech, genForma, Nasuni, Piston, Gladinet, Gluster, NephoScale
