Let's have board game sessions on Thursday evening at 7:00PM and Saturday evening at 8:30PM.

If you're coming to PyCon and can bring a board game, please add your name to this page and say what you can bring.

  • What games would you like to see?
  • What games can you bring?

Games

  • Carcassone, Travel Blokus, Ticket to Ride (Andrew Kuchling)
  • Settlers of Catan and Lost Cities (a 2 player game) (Richard Jones - AMK is bringing T2R? so I won't; I can't fit Tigris & Euphrates in my bag; I should also note that since I will be staying in the hotel I'll probably be up for games other nights too) [I really like Settlers of Catan and would join you -Jeff] [I will bring my board of Settlers of Catan along with the 5-6 person expansion pack -William]
  • Cosmic Encounter (Jeff Rush)
  • Fluxx - 3-15 players. (Doug Napoleone)
  • IceTowers - 3-6 players. (Doug Napoleone)
  • Memoire44 - up to 6 players (Tim Couper) .. I have 2 copies with me, can be joined together to make 1 big game for up to 8 players. Fun, easy to learn WWII. 0.75 hr per game.
  • Democrazy - (Ken Whitesell) This fits in the category of a truly brainless (but great fun) card game. Plus, I'll see what else I have room to pack.
  • Diplomacy - (Barry Warsaw) A fun game, but it takes committment since it can take a long time to play. There probably also won't be much time to teach it ahead of time. If anybody is interested, please contact me directly and if we can get enough people I'll try to remember to bring my board and pieces ;)
  • Illuminati - (William McVey) A good board (card) game for 2-8 people. See more details at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminati_%28game%29
  • Landlord, Grave Robbers From Outer Space, Mr Bunny's Internet Startup Game, and some two-player games (Polarity, GIPF, Zertz) (Brian Warner)
  • Meuterer - great 4 player german card game about ships and trading and mutiny. My personal favorite game. (PhilHassey)
  • Munchkin - um.. its munchkin (Doug Napoleone)
  • Chronos - 3-6 player card game (Doug Napoleone)
  • LCR - left center right.... 3-40 players (Doug Napoleone)
  • Ogre/GEV - tactical SF armor wargame, mostly 2 player but multiplayer scenarios are possible (RobertKern?)

The emphasis is on multiplayer games that can handle four or six people. I don't think two-player games are very practical for me to bring, because I'd have to bring so many of them; hopefully local attendees can bring chess, go, checkers, etc.

Comments/Questions

Since an 8:30 start would allow maybe one or two games could the session start earlier and maybe include some delivered pizza for dinner? -- RichardJones

The problem with officially starting earlier is running into the other BoFs. However we'll have plenty of evening rooms available and we can certainly announce an earlier start time, with the understanding that people will trickle in from the other BoFs and from dinner. -- JeffRush?

Fair enough, Jeff. The BoFs? seem to be much more popular and better-organised this year, so the 8:30+ "restriction" seems quite reasonable. -- RichardJones

I heard that there is a 'Game of Thrones' game out based on the George R. R. Martin books; similar to Diplomacy. Does anyone have this that is willing to bring it? is it any good? -- DougN?

I liked it a lot, but it can take a long time to finish a game. Sadly, I don't own it. -- RobertKern?

I'll be around for the first 3 days of Sprints and would really like to play board games a few of those nights as well. -- PhilHassey

I'll be up for that, Phil! -- RichardJones
