We are renting 3 of these mixers for 4 days. http://www.mackie.com/products/cfx12mkii

If you want to hook something up to the sound system, post what you want to do and when. We can do anything we want with the mixer, and even though it has lots of IO ports, it only has one line out, and that will be used by Jeff's recorder box. We can add splitters, but should really have a plan and test things out sometime Thursday. The stuff goes live Friday, so lets try to keep the dinking around to a minimum :)

Extra equipment: I'll help you get it hooked up to the mixer, but I don't want to be responsible for keeping it safe. Best to have someone in the room be responsible for it - either you or a friend. At night I plan on moving the projectors, mixer and mics to a secure room. The power and AV cables will be left in place. if anyone has left equipment, it will be left in the session room too, not taken to a secure place.

In a smaller technical conference where 'everyone knows everyone, and we are all nice guys' a laptop disappeared. It may have been an attendee, hotel staff, crook that figured out that a $400 conference registration gave him access to a bunch of high end laptops left around, or it may have even been a bunch of BS just to get attention. I have no clue what happened, but bottom line: don't let it happen to you.

If you want to record a tutorial, I think you need to get the speaker to sign a release form, see AudioVideoRecording (I think = I don't have the authority to allow this, will get clarification.) We have 1 wireless mic and a mixer avalibe. Currently Python 101 and Django are slatted for being recorded.

==== desired hookups:

Thur - Addison - mixer tape out (?? Jacks) -> Mac Laptop of Camcorder line in (getting info). Do Not have the cables for this.

Fri, Sat, Sun - all day, Ballroom A-E, F-J, Mesquite - mixer tape out (2 RCA jacks) -> kerobox line in. Jeff Rush, audio recordings of all main conference talks. Jeff, do you have the cables you need for this?

Friday, 3:40, Ballroom A-E, Python inside Imageworks (#2) Peter Shinners 's laptop headphone jack out -> direct box --100'xlr--> mixer in.

Jeremy Dunck: I will be bringing a handheld audio recorder and a digital video camera w/ a 2gb sd card. (Not sure of models). Would it be better for me to fill in where coverage is light (say, the tutorials), or just loan the equipment to the pros?

Gus Landis: I will be bringing at least one tripod and miniDV camcorder having a stereo miniphone audio in, and a small digital recorder with built in mic.. has a clip so could possibly be "hung" on clothing. May also have a second tripod and miniDV camera as well. Am bringing a computer (Microsoft XP) that can capture via "Microsoft Windows Movie Maker" from various camcorders, time permitting, uses 1:1 capture time :-(.

There will be audio recordings of the 3 main conference days, so that is covered. Not sure what the policy is concerning recording the tutorials. I think it will be OK to video record the main sessions. What kind of sound inputs does your recorder have?

Some of the instructors have expressed an interest in having the sessions recorded, others may not. Some instructors do this for a living (and are presenting at a reduced rate because its PyCon). We must contact the instructors and ask their permission first. Suggest that we do this year like we have in the past: release form with their desires before the presentation (record, don't record). That way we know ahead of time.
