Getting to Addison, Texas from the Airport

Dallas has two commercial airports, DFW and Love Field. Getting from either to the conference hotel is easiest via Super Shuttle or a taxi.

Rail/Bus:

The mass transportion system for the Dallas area is called DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit). It consists of rail and buses, mostly buses. The rail lines basically run north-south through the heart of Dallas, and from downtown Dallas by the airport and on to Ft. Worth. The system is not of much use in quickly reaching the conference hotel from the airport.

However if you have the time or are short on funds, it can be done. Bus from DFW to station, train into downtown Dallas, train north into Richardson area, and then bus west to the conference hotel. All for just a few dollars and lots of scenary. Personally I enjoy the trains and there are some nice restaurants and tourist sites along the routes.

The page for DART, along with a trip planner application, is at:

  http://www.dart.org/

Copy and paste this address to use the hotel as your origin or destination:

  14901 N DALLAS TOLLWAY

Johnny Stovall usually calls on the free white phone in baggage pickup and is told that a free bus will be ... in the next 15 minutes and to take him to the TRE rail station. An unlimited day pass costs from $1.50 to $4. It gets you in downtown Dallas much faster than a car at times. The problem is the delays between the planes, buses, and trains and the indirect route. The ride from downtown takes about 45 minutes to Addison. But the tripplan will give you exact times. Just use the same day of the week and time and see a plan now. Then do the same thing again within 14 days of your arrival or departure just to make sure.

Taxi:

See the TaxiSplitting page to find other PyCon attendees you can share a cab ride with.

Airport Limo (minibus/van):

Note: Super Shuttle covers this area for airport limo style ground transport. A call was placed on 2/9/06 to get a rate quote from DFW to the Dallas/Addison Marriott Quorum. They quoted a price of $36 for two people each way and that a reservation would be needed at least 24 hours ahead of time. They claim to take credit cards, but last month I used them (I was picked up in a 9 passenger van) to get from DFW to a different hotel and the driver was only accepting cash.

Recommendations

Wear a Python or PyCon T-shirt when you fly in, and look for others to share a taxi with.

Pre-arrange to share a taxi with others who arrive at the same time as you. This may not be easy (flights get delayed), but you can try. Put your details here: TaxiSplitting.
