When can I submit a proposal?
The Call for Proposals is open from 9/16/2008 through 10/31/2008.
How do I submit a proposal?
There is a sample proposal here.
** How do you determine which proposals are accepted for presentation?
When your proposal is received it is checked into the PyCon repository and made available to the tutorial scoring committee (usually 3 to 6 people). Each person assigns a score of:
- +1: Highest rating. People giving this score are willing to "champion" this proposal.
- +0: In favor of accepting this proposal.
- -0: Not in favor if this proposal but willing to listen to others.
- -1: Do not feel this proposal is a good fit for the conference.
Most tutorials will have scores of +/-0. Once all scores are in, a meeting is held on IRC and all tutorials are discussed. Every year we have to turn down many good proposals.
** Do I get paid for teaching a class? **
Yes. Although PyCon is planned and run by volunteers, we feel that so much effort goes into teaching a class that you deserve a (modest) stipend. In 2009, each tutorial was awarded 1,500.00 USD (more on payment below). If you have more than 1 teacher in your class you may split the stipend as you see fit. Also in 2009, we held 2 days of tutorials. Those teaching classes on the first day were compensated for 1 night hotel cost.
