Pygame: Modern game development

Intended Audience
Basic knowledge of Python is expected, but I will expect to start from the beginning with Pygame and game programming techniques.
Requirements
A laptop will be needed for the hands-on portion, though sharing would be possible if needed. Python and Pygame will also be needed, but I will have the installers with me on CD/flash drive. Within general reason, no specific version of either in required.
Summary
Python is becoming increasingly important in the game development world. This tutorial will cover the basics of 2D game design and development, as well as the powerful Pygame library. Each student will also develop their own game during a hands-on laboratory.
Attendees should bring a laptop for the hands-on portion or the tutorial.
Presenter Bio
Noah Kantrowitz is a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has been involved in the game development program here for over 3 years, and is currently the President of the Game Development Club. He is also a contributor to several open-source projects, most notably Trac. Noah lives outside Albany, New York.
Marc Destefano is Clinical Assistant Professor of Cognitive Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he co-founded the Game and Simulation Arts & Sciences Bachelor's Degree program. He has been teaching game design and game development for seven years, the last three using Python, Pygame, and Panda3D. His research interests are in game analysis from a cognitive perspective, and the psychology of play. Marc lives with his wife in Latham, New York.
