Python Lab: Solve This!
What is it?
A "Python Lab" where problems are announced to the group, people work on them for an hour, and then a couple of the best or interesting solutions are presented as a brief code walkthru. Something like an interactive "Python Cookbook" session, to show how the same problem might be solved differently by people at different skill levels, and a code walkthru can be quite educational.
Requirements:
None! No prior python experience needed. It is recommended that you bring a laptop with python 2.5. This is not a requirement as people are encouraged to use paired programming and share resources. The conference will not be providing computers.
Who:
Anyone with an interest in solving and learning to solve problems in python. We are looking to have novices and experts work side by side on problems for a greater understanding of the python language and how to make it work for you.
What:
Teams of 3-5 people will be formed to solve problems of their choosing from a predetermined set. This is not a competition. Proctors will be present to answer questions about the problems and python as well as give help where needed. The nature of the problems will mean that there is no one 'best' solution. One hour will be given to work on problems. Afterward, each group will have the opportunity to present a solution they find interesting and have an open discussion. Some sample problems will be provided below once we get closer to the conference date. One hard problem will be given out for people to start working on before the conference, if they so wish (optional!)
