Open Space
PyCon features extra rooms for attendees to schedule informal presentations or discussions. These "Open Space" rooms let you customize your experience at PyCon to match your specific interests.
Several rooms will be available during the conference days. There will be plenty of room, so make PyCon yours by using Open Space to create an event on whatever topic you wish.
Ideas for Open Space Sessions
- Have a "Birds-of-a-Feather" (BoF) session
- Get deeper into the details of a scheduled talk
- Give a presentation or tutorial
- Hold a panel discussion
- Run a mini-sprint
- Brainstorm about a new project
To Set Up An Open Space Event
Anytime before PyCon starts (12-Mar 5pm CST):
- Decide on the title and content of the event and create a wiki page for it. If the event is a Birds-of-a-Feather session, add it to the BoF wiki page. For all other event types, add your description to the Open Space wiki page.
Anytime after PyCon starts (12-Mar 5pm CST):
- Decide on the title and contents of the event and post an index card for it on the Open Space bulletin board. There will be a bulletin board for each day arranged by time slots (0:45 minute each) the available Open Space rooms. Merely post the index card into an available Open Space and you're set.
Remember to publicize your Open Space event:
- Post a paper notice
- Tell your friends
- Mention it during relevant Q&A times
