PyCon: Connecting The Python Community

PyCon 2009:

  • Tutorial days: Wednesday March 25 & Thursday March 26, 2009. (Two days of tutorials next year instead of one!)
  • Conference days: Friday March 27 through Sunday March 29, 2009.
  • Development sprints: Monday March 30 through Thursday April 2, 2009.

More details on the PyCon blog.

PyCon 2008 is now over. There's lots of activity in the blogosphere though; Planet Python and Google's blog search are good places to start.

We need your feedback! Please fill out a conference feedback form and (as appropriate) tutorial feedback forms. Your feedback helps to improve PyCon.

Sprint Accomplishments! See what was accomplished during the sprints.

We also have a short employment opportunities and sponsor feedback survey. If you're looking for info from sponsors or a new job, this is a simple way to get started.

Dates to remember:

  • Tutorials: Thursday, March 13, 2008
  • Conference: Friday, March 14, through Sunday, March 16, 2008
  • Sprints: Monday, March 17 through Thursday, March 20, 2008

PyCon featured the following events:

  • Tutorial Day: Thursday March 13

A chance for in-depth learning from the experts.

  • Conference Days: Friday March 14 to Sunday March 16.

    • Keynote talks from luminaries.
    • Scheduled talks on a myriad of subjects.
    • Lightning talks: 5-minute impromptu talks, scheduled at the conference (come prepared to talk!).
    • Open Space: plenty of rooms available for follow-up discussions after scheduled talks, group discussions of projects, unscheduled talks, demos, brainstorming...
    • And the hallway track is always popular!
  • Expo Hall: Friday March 14 & Saturday March 15.

Many sponsors and vendors will have booths in an expanded exhibitor area this year. Get a T-shirt, find a job, talk to the companies who participate in the Python community!

Many sponsors will be recruiting, so come prepared with business cards and résumés if you're in the job market. You can also check out the job board for listings.

  • Development Sprints: Monday March 17 to Thursday March 20.

Up to four days of intensive learning about and development of open-source projects. We provide the space and the infrastructure (network, power, tables & chairs), you provide the enthusiasm and the brainpower. All experience levels welcome. The sprints are free!

  • The Community: PyCon is a community conference!

    • ChiPy Meeting: Thursday, March 13 Chicago Python User Group's monthly meeting - early arrivers welcome!
    • The meeting of the Python Software Foundation, Friday March 14
